Personalised and effective

The very best healthcare is evidence-based and personalised, so that you know you are receiving a treatment that works, and will work for you.

The evidence for the role of nutrition in mental health is well-established yet most approaches to mental health issues focus only on the mind, looking at errors in thinking or attention, and miss the essential relationship between mind and body. It is now understood that nutrition is as essential to mental health as it is to physical health. At Monumental Health we address your brain's nutritional requirements as the foundation for better mental health and resilience. This comprehensive, personalised approach maximises your potential to make the most of your psychological therapy.

The brain and Nutrition

Every aspect of your brain’s healthy functioning relies on adequate nutrition. For example, serotonin, which is linked to mood disorders and depression, and melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep/wake cycle, are converted from amino acids that cannot be synthesized by the body. The building blocks of these important compounds must come from the food you eat.

The brain does not function in isolation but depends on information from the senses and nutrition from the body for optimal activity. The same way that dietary deficiencies can cause physical ailments they can impair psychological functioning too – of course, because your brain is a bodily organ. Nutritional deficiencies are indicated in a number of neurological and psychological illnesses such as nerve damage, amnesia, dementias, mood disorders such as depression, and attention problems.

What You Can Expect

At Monumental Health I look at the whole story  - nutritional requirements, lifestyle habits and thinking style - to provide you with the most complete, effective solution for the issues that are troubling you. Whilst all treatments are tailored to suit your individual needs detailed below is what you can expect when you get in touch.

When you book your first appointment you will be sent two self-assessment forms and a food diary to be completed and returned before your first session. This helps to provide an accurate assessment of your nutritional status and will save you valuable time in session. Your food diary is analysed to provide details of your current macro and micro-nutrient intake. You may (optionally) choose to have a blood test conducted at one of my partner clinics to assess blood levels of particular nutrients and highlight any deficiencies.

We will then meet for an assessment of your psychological or life concern. Together with the nutritional information this will inform the treatment plan – an integrated package of nutritional advice, psychology and psychotherapy – to help return you to emotional wellness.

A referral service is available if a physical intervention is considered beneficial.

All treatments are monitored for effectiveness to ensure you receive support that works.

One-Off Assessments

Sometimes you might have just one burning issue you wish to discuss or a private question you feel only a mental health professional will be able to answer. In this case it is possible to arrange for brief consultations (typically over 1-2 sessions). Just mention this when you make your initial contact.
